Rip Curl The Eddie Big Wave Invitational, in memory of Eddie Aikau, only runs when Waimea Bay is truly giant. Most winters it does not run at all, and that is part of what makes it special. It is run by the Eddie Aikau Foundation, with Rip Curl presenting.

At a glance

  • Holding period: Rip Curl lists December 6, 2026 to March 4, 2027. The North Shore Chamber calendar lists December 6 to March 6.

  • Venue: Waimea Bay, North Shore Oʻahu

  • The go call: waves must hold 20 feet Hawaiian scale or bigger (around 40-foot faces) for the whole day

  • Entry: invitation only. The 2026–27 invitees have not been announced yet.

Good to know

  • The Eddie gets first choice of contest days on the North Shore, ahead of every other event.

  • Last season’s holding period ended without a go call.

How to watch

In person, people watch from the beach and along Kamehameha Highway at Waimea Bay. Check the official Eddie site for any livestream announcement.
