Three weeks into the 2026–27 Hawaiʻi Surfing Association season, only one contest is in the books. Weather wiped out an Oʻahu stop, the Big Island opener moved to October, and Maui and Kauaʻi have not started yet. Here is where every chapter stands as of October 2, 2026.

Season so far at a glance

  • Contests completed: 1, the Oʻahu Bowls Prime (Sept 12–13, Ala Moana Bowls)

  • Cancelled: 1, the Oʻahu Straightouts Prime (Sept 26–27), called off for weather

  • Postponed: 1, the HSA Big Island opener, moved from Sept 12 to Oct 17

  • Rankings: none posted yet for 2026–27

Oʻahu: Bowls Prime opens the season

The Oʻahu chapter opened at Ala Moana Bowls on September 12–13, and LiveHeats lists the event as complete. Seventeen divisions had surfers, with 89 division entries in all (some surfers entered more than one division). New this season were $75 first-timer divisions for Menehune, JV and Varsity, capped at six entries each, and the SB Menehune 1-A winner earns a special trophy from the Chigasaki Surfing Association, honoring the sister-city tie with Chigasaki, Japan.

Shortboard division winners from the finals:

  • Open Men’s SB Prime: Atsumi Yoshioka (7.10)

  • Boys 16–17: Max Peters (16.33)

  • Boys 14–15: Kapono Miranda (12.17)

  • Boys 12–13: Dominic Carvalho (17.00)

  • Boys 10–11: Rowan Nixon (12.00)

  • Girls 14–15: Kiki Oshiro Kaneshiro (11.50)

  • Girls 12–13: Ellie Reed (11.60)

  • Girls 10–11: Cambria Boehm (17.00)

Longboard, SUP, masters and 1-A results, plus every heat score, are on the Bowls Prime results page on LiveHeats.

Two weeks later the Straightouts Prime was cancelled due to weather. That same weekend Hurricane Nolo was passing south of the islands, sending big, dangerous surf to south- and east-facing shores.

Up next: HSA has posted the schedule for the Sandy Beach Prime on October 3–4. Entry is closed on LiveHeats. HSA events on Oʻahu start at 8:00 a.m.

Hawaiʻi Island: opener moves to October 17

HSA Big Island postponed its September 12 contest to Saturday, October 17. Entry for Contest 1 is open on LiveHeats, and Contest 2 is scheduled for November 21. The chapter has also expanded its bodyboarding categories and is funding scholarships for each high school surf team with the Chee Pono Foundation.

Maui: season starts in November

HSA Maui has not run a 2026–27 contest yet. Entry is open on LiveHeats for the first three stops, and discounted family pricing is back for active members:

  • Vissla Hi-Tech Lopez Surfbash XXXVII: waiting period Nov 7–15

  • Minit Medical Urgent Care Kahului Harbor: waiting period Dec 5–23

  • Dukes Legends of the Bay: waiting period Jan 2–31

  • Lahaina Harbor Classic: listed for May 8 – June 27, 2027, with entry closed. The event has been on hold while Lahaina Harbor is dredged.

Kauaʻi: no events posted yet

HSA Kauaʻi has no 2026–27 events listed on LiveHeats so far. Watch @hsakauai on Instagram for the first announcement.

Rankings: not yet

No 2026–27 standings are up yet. The HSA Oʻahu rankings page on LiveHeats says the leaderboard will appear once event results are available, and the event ratings page on the HSA website still shows the 2025–26 season. With one contest done, expect the first Oʻahu ratings after the Sandy Beach Prime.
